Nathrop Builds- Complete December 2019

Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity would like to extend a gracious thank you to everyone who made our 2019 Build Season a success. We truly appreciate the hard work, dedication and generosity of all of the build sponsors, lunch donors, build site volunteers, construction professionals, and material donors. This year local residents and businesses, as well as multiple traveling groups, assisted in building the 21st & 22nd Habitat homes for two local families.

November Construction Update

Volunteer With Us Today!
It’s amazing how time flies! Since last month’s newsletter, we have completed drywall, installed windows and doors,  and are actively working on the septic system. Special thanks to Bugling Bull Excavating, ACA Products, Butala, and Valley Precast for helping us out with the septic system and backfill. The rush of volunteers and their excitement to help during the past few weeks has been amazing and very appreciated.
The thirty-day countdown is on and we need your help to get these families into their homes before Christmas! From this point forward, we are installing flooring, cabinets, trim, doors, forming/placing concrete for small patios, and various other odds-and-ends to wrap up the houses.
We look forward to seeing you at the Nathrop build site soon. We have lots of ways to get involved. For more information or to sign-up contact the office at 719-395-0482, or click here to schedule you or your group for a fun day of volunteering with Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity!

October Construction Update

VOLUNTEERS are making this happen–thank you!

Since September’s newsletter, we have made tremendous progress with big thanks to our eight-person NCCC AmeriCorps group that arrived on September 21st. Also, we have had a few core volunteers that have really put in a significant effort, along with build groups from the Salida Sunrise Rotary Club, Town of Buena Vista, the Buena Vista Correctional Facility Construction Technology students, and the Women’s Build days. Groups are so much fun! We have built and raised walls, installed wall and roof sheathing, completed a firewall, installed plumbing alongside Jeff Acke Plumbing, among many other minor but very important tasks.

We are closing in on the 2nd half of the build so we can get these new homeowners into their homes by Christmas. Please come out and bring a friend or two. You can swing a hammer, cut some lumber, hang some drywall, paint a wall, install some trim, be a site host, provide lunch for the hardworking volunteer, whatever you can do to add to the momentum would be greatly appreciated. Please sign-up and come on out for some Safe-Fun-Work…in that order.

Thank you to the Salida Sunrise Rotary Group for a productive build day on September 21st!

Thank you to the Town of Buena Vista Board & Staff for helping build your community on September 28th!

Grab Your Group & Volunteer With Us!

Groups play a huge part in our mission because it takes lots of hands to build a community. Bring your team and build with us. Or, you can complete important projects at Habitat ReStore. No experience is necessary – we’ll teach you how to complete the work and find tasks for all skill levels. Schools, churches, businesses, community groups, and other nonprofit organizations play a critical role in our mission.

If your group would like to partner with Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity but is unable to commit the time for a build day or to working at the ReStore, we have other opportunities for you to get involved. For example, on September 28th, Chaffee County Waste arrived at the build site to provide a catered lunch for The Town of Buena Vista crew, and all of the volunteers, as well as the NCCC AmeriCorps team. No matter how your group gives back, you’ll be helping build brighter futures for hardworking families.

Thank you so much to Chaffee County Waste for sponsoring the delicious meal for the build site volunteers on September 28th, as well as David Royar, Chaffee County Waste’s Sales Manager, for taking time out of your weekend to deliver and serve the lunch! Additionally, Chaffee County Waste donates the full cost of all roll-off dumpsters and porta-pots to our build sites, as well as providing bi-weekly trash removal service for our affiliate.

Thank you to all of our volunteers!

We look forward to seeing you at the Nathrop build site soon. We have lots of ways to get involved. For more information or to sign-up, contact the CCHfH Office at 719-395-0482 or click here to schedule you or your group for a fun day of volunteering with Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity!

September Construction Update

September 13, 2019 Build Progress

The Nathrop homes are cruising along: THANK YOU, VOLUNTEERS!

We’ve had several awesome locals helping at the build over the past few weeks and a great crew of students from the Buena Vista Correctional Complex Construction (BVCC) Technology class adding a tremendous effort to keep the progress going. The second mission’s team from the Tri-Lakes United Methodist Church of Monument spent several days working at the site from August 7th-10th. On August 24th, the Buena Vista Optimist Club and the Knights of Columbus groups teamed up for a build day at the Nathrop site. Thank you to all of our volunteers, BVCC students, and groups for your continued support of Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity!

This week we went vertical with the help of a group of Habitat for Humanity RV Care-a-Vanners who arrived on September 9th and will continue working at the build site through September 20th. We have a longtime Habitat volunteer coming in from Texas next week to help us install the trusses. That’s commitment! On September 23rd a team of nine AmeriCorps NCCC members arrives for eight weeks to continue the momentum. Please come out to meet them, swing a hammer, cut some lumber, paint a wall, be a site host, whatever you can do to add to the energy. Please sign up and come on out for some Safe-Fun-Work…in that order.

We look forward to seeing you at the Nathrop build site soon. We have lots of ways to get involved. For more information or to sign-up, contact the Habitat office at 719-395-0482.

August Construction Update

August 14, 2019 Build Progress

We set and poured footers for the foundation over the first two weeks of August, foundation work will begin on Thursday, August 15th; it’s a very exciting time to start going vertical. Please sign up and come on out for some safe, fun work…in that order.

In Salida, we continue to stride along with the refurbishment home and have few opportunities there for volunteers since the to-be new homeowners are getting as many of their hours on that build site by themselves.

Without the volunteer effort, we cannot accomplish our mission of building homes, communities, and hope in Chaffee County. Thank you to all of our volunteers that have contributed their time and talents to support housing in our community. If you are interested in any of our volunteer opportunities, we look forward to seeing you either on or off the build site soon.  Simply contact the office or volunteer up (https://www.volunteerup.com/Login.asp?w=i&o=211) to sign up now.

Contact us now to reserve a spot at the build site for you, your group or your business; availability is filling up as you read this.

Please contact the office at 719-395-0482 to get involved in the 2019 build season.

Stay tuned for the latest updates!
