Community is the coming together of people to prevail.  This is just what happens through Habitat for Humanity every day.  People come together to realize a better world by creating dignity through affordable housing.  Annually in Chaffee County, three hundred people come together by volunteering over 10,000 hours to recycle, reuse, reduce, and rebuild through ReStore and construct, support, educate, and persevere in the creation of affordable homes in partnership with local families.

You are invited to get involved in this transformational community. Everybody is welcome!

May your day be blessed,
Jill Smola Executive Director

 2017 Mac & Cheese Bake-Off

Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity will host their 4th Annual Mac & Cheese Bake-Off event on Thursday, July 27, 2017. The fundraiser will take place at Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort Pavilion at 5:00 PM. We are excited to partner with Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort to raise funds and awareness of affordable housing for local families. All proceeds from this event will benefit Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity’s mission of building homes, communities, and hope.

Individuals, church groups, businesses, and restaurants will supply their best macaroni and cheese recipes. Attendees will then vote on their favorite dishes. Salad and dessert will be provided and a cash bar will also be available. In addition to the Bake-Off, we will also have a silent auction sponsored by donations from local businesses. Prizes will be awarded for the winning recipe in both the Individual Category and Restaurant Category.

Adult tickets for the event are $10.00 if purchased in advance, and $15.00 at the door; tickets for children ages 12 and under are $5.00. Entry is free for all bakers. Silent auction winners, as well as the winners of the individual and restaurant categories for the 2017 Mac & Cheese Bake-Off, will be announced at 7 PM.

2017 Construction Update

Chaffee County Habitat construction team is hard at work!

This month we are swinging hammers, the construction team is hard at work on the home construction project for 2017 as well as the remodel of the second floor of the Habitat office.  The build site is a half-acre lot that was donated to Habitat by the county commissioners.  We sincerely thank them for this assistance as we have not been able to purchase any build sites within our budget constraints.
During the last month, the water well was drilled by American Drilling.  In addition, Bugling Bull Excavating dug the hole for the foundation and in the future will do the installation of the Onsite Waste Treatment System.  Mike Pelc and Mike Howlett owners of Bugling Bull Excavating are BV natives.  This will be the first time they will be working with Habitat.  Once there was a hole we volunteers moved in and built the form for the footers.  By the time you read this the concrete will be poured.  This provides us the foundation we need to build a wonderful home.   Sangre De Cristo is scheduling installation of the permanent electrical power supply.  Our plan is to start working on this site full-time by the end of the month.  This will allow us to begin construction using all of you excited volunteers in late June.
Over the next two weeks, we will focus on completion of the intern housing project on the second floor of the Habitat office. Chaffee Habitat gets a tremendous amount of benefit from the interns and traveling groups that work with us.  In order to always be able to provide them free housing for their services, we are converting the second floor of the Habitat office into a two bedroom two bath apartment with a full kitchen.  We passed the rough-in electrical and plumbing inspections and are now working on final trim out.  I expect this activity to take two weeks.
If you would like to assist in any way please contact the Habitat office at 395-0482.  There is a wide variety of support that would be beneficial from providing meals to donating building material as well as volunteering at the build or other Habitat site.

Please contact the CCHfH office at 395-0482 to find out how you can get involved.
