Community is the coming together of people to prevail.  This is just what happens through Habitat for Humanity every day.  People come together to realize a better world by creating dignity through affordable housing.  Annually in Chaffee County, three hundred people come together by volunteering over 10,000 hours to recycle, reuse, reduce, and rebuild through ReStore and construct, support, educate, and persevere in the creation of affordable homes in partnership with local families.

You are invited to get involved in this transformational community. Everybody is welcome!

May your day be blessed,
Jill Smola Executive Director

2017 Build Update

Build #20 Preparations In the Works!
Although we are not swinging hammers, the construction team is hard at work on the home construction project for 2017. The build site is a half-acre lot that was donated to Habitat by the Chaffee County commissioners. We sincerely thank them for this generous contribution as we have been unable to purchase build sites within our budget constraints.
The future homeowner has been selected and will be highlighted in an upcoming article. Architectural design is complete for the two bedroom/one bath home and the domestic well permit has been submitted. So far everything is progressing toward our target April start date.

Please contact the CCHfH office at 395-0482 to find out how you can get involved.

2016 Women Build

women-build-logo-4What is Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build? The Women Build is a Habitat for Humanity program for women who want to learn construction skills and build homes and communities. This program brings together women from all walks of life to address the housing crisis facing millions of women and children worldwide. No experience is necessary!

During the Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity’s 2016 Women Build, we worked at the duplexes located at 124 and 126 Starbuck Circle in Salida. The group spent the two days working on interior painting, drywall texturing and exterior landscaping of the projects. The ladies had a great time, learned new construction skills and made a significant contribution towards affordable housing in Chaffee County. The Buena Vista Christian Science Church provided a delicious lunch on Saturday. Each attendee received a Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity t-shirt and Women Build tote bag.

exciting, life-changing opportunity?

2016 Bike & Build Teams Help Out at Starbuck Build
More than 60 riders assist on Starbucks build

Two groups comprised of more than sixty dedicated young adults embarked on a life-changing journey with the Bike & Build Organization. The first group of cyclists left Nags Head, North Carolina on May 15th heading towards their final destination of San Diego, California.
The second group departed from New Haven, Connecticut on June 2nd and will arrive at their endpoint of Half Moon Bay, California on August 14th. Combined, these two teams ride 7,655 miles, visit multiple communities and fund-raise, while working towards their mission to benefit affordable housing and empower young adults for a lifetime of service and civic engagement.
Their hard work, compassion, and dedication to the affordable housing cause are greatly appreciated and admired throughout the United States. Follow your favorite 2016 Bike and Build teams at www.bikeandbuild.org/follow-2016-trips/.

Chaffee County was designated as a build stop by each of these groups. This year the teams worked at the 124/126 Starbuck Circle construction site in Salida. The NC2SD team arrived in Buena Vista on June 30th and spent July 1st at the build site. The CT2CA team rode into Salida on July 16th and worked at the site on July 17th. Each team rode into the valley with the purpose of assisting Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity in providing decent, affordable housing in our community.
