Community is the coming together of people to prevail. This is just what happens through Habitat for Humanity every day. People come together to realize a better world by creating dignity through affordable housing. Annually in Chaffee County, three hundred people come together by volunteering over 10,000 hours to recycle, reuse, reduce, and rebuild through ReStore and construct, support, educate, and persevere in the creation of affordable homes in partnership with local families.
You are invited to get involved in this transformational community. Everybody is welcome!
May your day be blessed,
Jill Smola Executive Director

5th Annual Mac & Cheese Fundraiser Details Announced
Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity will host their 5th Annual Mac & Cheese Bake-Off event on Wednesday, July 25th 2018. The fundraiser will take place at Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort Pavilion at 5:30 PM.
Individuals, church groups, businesses, and restaurants will supply their best macaroni and cheese recipes. Attendees will then vote on their favorite dishes. Salad and dessert will be provided and a cash bar will also be available. In addition to the Bake-Off, we will also have a silent auction sponsored by donations from local businesses. Adult tickets for the event are $10.00, if purchased in advance, and $15.00 at the door; tickets for children ages 12 and under are $5.00.
All proceeds from this event will benefit Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity’s effort to raise awareness of the need for affordable housing in our community. Our focus is not simply the construction of homes, but also the empowerment of families in Chaffee County.

Meet CCHfH’s 2018 Summer Interns
PR & Marketing Interns
My name is Morgan Campbell and I am from Bucks County, Pennsylvania. I am currently a Public Relations/Communications student at Southern New Hampshire University. I love running, hiking, traveling, and being outdoors. In my free time, you can find me almost always outside. I have visited Buena Vista the past two summers and have fallen in love with the views and activities of the town. I am so excited for the opportunity to intern with Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity and be able to spend my whole summer in the gorgeous state of Colorado, but will miss my dog back home! I am also excited for the chance to meet new people from different places and be able to try new activities and see new things!
“Hello! My name is Anne-Marie de Lafforest. I’m a rising sophomore studying business administration at ESSEC Business School, in Paris. I spent all my life in France, before transferring to an American high school in Indiana, where I obtained an International Baccalaureate degree. I love traveling and learning different languages (even languages such as Sign Language and Braille). I also enjoy hiking, photography, and producing movies.
I look forward to being Habitat’s next Marketing and PR intern this summer. As an intern, I plan to continue learning about the different ways Habitat for Humanity develops initiatives to create equal opportunities for all. With the help of staff and fellow volunteers, I hope to develop a marketing plan, and organize a fundraising campaign to help alleviate poverty and build brighter futures for families in need.”
Construction Intern

Gilbert Bahati
My name is Gilbert Bahati. I am a rising junior at the University of California, Berkeley and am majoring in Civil and Environmental Engineering. I am originally from Zambia and came to the US for studies – to pursue my engineering program. Coming to the US and adjusting to its culture has been a wonderful experience. Visiting places, such as Colorado, has all the more made it even more fascinating for me. I am passionate about helping the lives of other people and that’s the main reason why I am interning with the Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity this summer. As an intern for Habitat, it’s exciting and humbling to know that I am able to incorporate my degree skills while directly helping the lives of other people. I am learning a lot of amazing things about the special designs of houses/residential buildings in the US while interacting with members of the community. I hope to inspire other students with this experience when I get back to school by presenting an appealing perspective of being a Civil Engineer.
Who does it take to build a Habitat house?
Whirlpool Re-Ups with Habitat
Will continue providing a new range and fridge for every Habitat home built in the U.S. and Canada.
Whirlpool Corporation re-upped its long-term commitment to Habitat for Humanity, marking the 19th year of the relationship. Whirlpool will continue providing a new range and refrigerator for every new Habitat home built in the U.S. and Canada.
Jeff Noel, corporate vice president of communications & public affairs for Whirlpool Corporation said, “Whirlpool Corporation is committed to improving people’s everyday lives, and through our work with Habitat, we’re able to make a positive impact in communities throughout the U.S. and around the world.”
Since the collaboration began in 1999, Whirlpool Corporation has committed more than $107 million to Habitat for Humanity worldwide. In the United States and Canada, the company has donated more than 191,000 ranges and refrigerators to new Habitat homes, serving more than 100,000 families. Additionally, Whirlpool has donated more than 42,000 products to Habitat ReStore retail outlets, helping raise nearly $5.7 million.
Habitat Seeking Land for 2018 Build
Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity (CCHfH) is actively seeking sites for our 2018 build cycle. Without a viable site, Habitat for Humanity may not be able to build affordable housing for local families in 2018. Nearly 1,300 families in Chaffee County are impacted by substandard housing issues; sadly, this number continues to rise. The local housing crisis is real and this is everyone’s challenge. Please help us in our mission to build homes, communities, and hope.
If someone is interested in donating or selling land below market value, Dan Cooper, CCHfH Board Member and real estate agent with Century 21, is willing to offer his services free of charge and will ensure that the donation or sale is done per Colorado real estate laws.
Please contact the office at 719-395-0482 if you are interested in a full or partial land donation to Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity.
