Community is the coming together of people to prevail.  This is just what happens through Habitat for Humanity every day.  People come together to realize a better world by creating dignity through affordable housing.  Annually in Chaffee County, three hundred people come together by volunteering over 10,000 hours to recycle, reuse, reduce, and rebuild through ReStore and construct, support, educate, and persevere in the creation of affordable homes in partnership with local families.

You are invited to get involved in this transformational community. Everybody is welcome!

May your day be blessed,
Jill Smola Executive Director

2017 Women Build

What is Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build? The Women Build is a Habitat for Humanity program for women who want to learn construction skills and build homes and communities. This program brings together women from all walks of life to address the housing crisis facing millions of women and children worldwide. No construction experience is necessary!

During Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity’s 2017 Women Build on September 15th and 22nd, we worked at our twentieth build site located at 11301 County Road 198 in Nathrop. The groups worked on measuring, cutting, hanging and mudding drywall, painting doors, framing the garage door, as well as installing windows and doors. The ladies had a fabulous time, learned new construction skills and made a significant contribution towards affordable housing in Chaffee County. Each attendee received a Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity license plate holder in appreciation for their support.

Mary Hay with Una & Papoose

Dan Cooper (Century 21) and Trisha Flint provided delicious lunches and desserts. We would especially like to thank Mary Hay for serving as the Site Host for the 2017 Women Build Fridays. She does an amazing job keeping everything organized and always pitches-in wherever there is a need for assistance.

September 2017 Construction Update:

The new build in Nathrop is moving quickly due to the few in number but very dedicated local volunteers. Our partnership with the Department of Corrections and their construction class continues to be crucial to the steady progress. In addition, there have been several fantastic groups that traveled to Chaffee County to assist with the build.

The main exterior accomplishments have been the installation of roofing shingles and concrete poured for the garage and driveway. Installation of windows and door has just begun. Interior accomplishments are the completion of rough-in electrical and plumbing as well as the installation of drywall on interior walls.

Future focus will be insulation of exterior walls and then hanging drywall on the same. This will be followed by flooring and finish trim. If you would like to assist in any way please contact the Habitat office at 395-0482. There is a wide variety of support that would be beneficial from providing meals to donating building material as well as volunteering at the build or other Habitat site.

Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity is in need of a variety of support,

Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity is pleased to announce the results of their 4th Annual Mac & Cheese Bake-Off Fundraiser held at the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort Pavilion on Thursday, July 27, 2017.

Individual Category Winner: Jennifer Garcia

Approximately 250 people were in attendance and $9,000.00 was raised at this year’s fundraising event to benefit the affordable housing cause in Chaffee County. Congratulations to Jennifer Garcia (Individual Category) & Brett Boren (Restaurant Category) for winning first place in their categories in 2016 & 2017. We truly appreciate all of the donors, bakers, volunteers and attendees for making the 2017 Annual Mac & Cheese Bake-Off/Silent Auction such a successful event. Thank you, Chaffee County!

Three competitors in the restaurant category and seventeen individuals vied for the people’s choice. First place in each category was awarded a$75 Visa gift card and a first place certificate. For the attendees, there was an amazing assortment of macaroni and cheese recipes to sample. The variety ranged from desserts to main dishes. After counting the votes, Brett Boren, banquet chef at Mt. Princeton, won the restaurant category and Jennifer Garcia won the individual category as the 2017 Mac & Cheese Bake-Off Champions. Both bakers were also the winners of the 2016 Mac & Cheese Bake-Off Competition. Congratulations Brett and Jennifer!

The silent auction was also a great success. The auction comprised of more than forty items donated by individuals, local artists and many Chaffee County businesses. Some of the items included rafting trips, resort packages, gift cards, tools, jewelry, and art work.
