Habitat on the Hill & Coffee at the Capitol

On March 6th, Jill Nall, Executive Director of Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity (CCHFH), and other Habitat for Humanity advocates from across Colorado gathered at Coffee at the Capitol to meet with legislators and champion policies that support homeownership solutions. Jill met with Colorado State Senators Mark Baisley and Dylan Roberts, Speaker of the House Julie McCluskey, and Representative Meghan Lukens.

“As the housing crisis continues to impact families across Colorado, we must work together to remove these obstacles and expand access to affordable homeownership. Advocacy is a key part of that effort. With over 20 housing-related bills in this session, it’s more important than ever to unify our voices,” said Nall.

In February, Jill joined representatives from Habitat for Humanity of Colorado, along with Habitat St. Vrain, Fort Collins, Grand County, Vail Valley, Pikes Peak, Denver, and Berthoud in Washington, D.C., for the 2025 Habitat on the Hill conference. Habitat’s annual legislative conference, Habitat on the Hill, brings together advocates representing all aspects of Habitat’s mission together for focused discussions, training sessions, networking and direct advocacy opportunities to their members of Congress.

During the conference, Habitat for Humanity gathered nearly 500 advocates nationwide to urge Congress to prioritize policies that will increase the availability of affordable homes. The advocates participated in training, collaboration, and direct advocacy efforts to advance policies that support affordable homeownership. This initiative highlights Habitat’s commitment to addressing the lack of affordable homeownership supply and the broader affordable housing crisis.

Jill stated, “The Colorado affiliates met with Congressional offices on Capitol Hill to emphasize the urgent need for solutions that expand homeownership opportunities and strengthen communities”. Habitat advocates urged Congress to take action by supporting existing successful programs through appropriations, supporting incentives through the tax code, and championing innovative new policy ideas.
