October 2017 Construction Update:

Nathrop Build- October 2017

CCHfH construction team is hard at work!

Hurry! Hurry!! Hurry!!! The new build in Nathrop is in the home stretch. If you would like to support the build in any fashion time is running out. We are working on finish trim. All finish carpenters followed by painters are needed. On a related note, we have not had any home-baked cookies delivered to the build site in many weeks. Any flavor would be greatly appreciated! I would like to mention American Overhead Door. They donated and installed the garage door with opener. The kitchen cabinets and countertops are in and will be installed in a few days. Then we will move to interior doors, case and base trim. On the exterior, the only remaining item is stucco which will begin before you read this article. Hurry! Hurry!! Hurry!!! We have no traveling groups for the remainder of the build. Therefore we are dependent on local volunteers. If you would like to assist in any way please contact the Habitat office at 395-0482 or just show up at the site.

Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity is in need of a variety of support,
from providing meals to donating building materials,
as well as volunteering at the build or another Habitat site.
Please contact the CCHfH office at 395-0482 to find out how you can get involved!

September 2017 Construction Update:

Nathrop Build Mid-September 2017

The new build in Nathrop is moving quickly due to the few in number but very dedicated local volunteers. Our partnership with the Department of Corrections and their construction class continues to be crucial to the steady progress. In addition, there have been several fantastic groups that traveled to Chaffee County to assist with the build.

The main exterior accomplishments have been the installation of roofing shingles and concrete poured for the garage and driveway. Installation of windows and door has just begun. Interior accomplishments are the completion of rough-in electrical and plumbing as well as the installation of drywall on interior walls.

Future focus will be insulation of exterior walls and then hanging drywall on the same. This will be followed by flooring and finish trim. If you would like to assist in any way please contact the Habitat office at 395-0482. There is a wide variety of support that would be beneficial from providing meals to donating building material as well as volunteering at the build or other Habitat site.

August 2017 Construction Update:

Nathrop Build Mid-August 2017

Intern/Group Housing Remodel

A lot has happened since our last construction update. The remodel of the second floor of the Habitat office is complete. Please stop by to have a look. This is a great asset that will assist CCHfH in delivering on their mission for many years. The new build in Nathrop is moving quickly. During the last two months we have progressed from a hole in the ground to a fully framed house with the roof dried-in. The local volunteers are few in number but very dedicated. Our partnership with the Department of Corrections and their construction class continues to be crucial to steady progress. In addition, there have been several fantastic groups that traveled to Chaffee County to assist with the build. Check out the group article for more information about the various groups.

Over the next month, we will focus on completion of rough in plumbing. Additionally, the exterior walls will be dried-in so the electrical work can begin as well.

June 2017 Construction Update:

CCHfH construction team is hard at work!

This month we are swinging hammers, the construction team is hard at work on the home construction project for 2017 as well as the remodel of the second floor of the Habitat office. The build site is a half-acre lot that was donated to Habitat by the county commissioners. We sincerely thank them for this assistance as we have not been able to purchase any build sites within our budget constraints.
During the last month, the water well was drilled by American Drilling. In addition, Bugling Bull Excavating dug the hole for the foundation and in the future will do the installation of the Onsite Waste Treatment System. Mike Pelc and Mike Howlett owners of Bugling Bull Excavating are BV natives. This will be the first time they will be working with Habitat. Once there was a hole we volunteers moved in and built the form for the footers. By the time you read this the concrete will be poured. This provides us the foundation we need to build a wonderful home. Sangre De Cristo is scheduling installation of the permanent electrical power supply. Our plan is to start working on this site full-time by the end of the month. This will allow us to begin construction using all of you excited volunteers in late June.
Over the next two weeks, we will focus on completion of the intern housing project on the second floor of the Habitat office. Chaffee Habitat gets a tremendous amount of benefit from the interns and traveling groups that work with us. In order to always be able to provide them free housing for their services, we are converting the second floor of the Habitat office into a two bedroom two bath apartment with a full kitchen. We passed the rough-in electrical and plumbing inspections and are now working on final trim out. I expect this activity to take two weeks.
If you would like to assist in any way please contact the Habitat office at 395-0482. There is a wide variety of support that would be beneficial from providing meals to donating building material as well as volunteering at the build or other Habitat sites.
